Happy List: #59
Hello, Hello! And welcome back! I hope you had a good Valentine’s week if that’s your thing. My kids have been off school all week, so it’s been a bit of a whirlwind. The good kind though! And in case you were wondering – nope – my dear children do not know how to sleep in when they get a week off from school. On Monday I shared the books the kids and I have been reading together this winter. Then on Wednesday I gave you a little update on the whereabouts of St. Valentine. Well, his earthly remains. As you can see, I like to mix the topics up…
St. Valentine’s Remains Are In Dublin
Hold onto your pink teddy bear and open up your box of mystery chocolates because I have an interesting Valentine’s Day story for you! The actual saint that kicked off this entire multi-billion dollar holiday is St. Valentine and his remains are indeed located in Dublin. I read about this link between Valentine’s Day and Ireland on a site called Irish Customs and Culture. You’ll have to read the full account yourself because it is quite detailed. And we all know digging into the minutiae, as important as it may be, is not my love language. That’s why there are experts. Now, as I understand the story… The remains were…
Books My Kids Are Reading Part 7
I’m back with another update (the 7th!) of what books my kids and I have been reading together. The books I share here are the ones my kids, 2nd and 5th graders, enjoyed and gave their stamp of approval. My feelings are sometimes more complicated. I’m a mom. I overthink all. the. things! First, I wanted to show you a different kind of book. This is my son’s Irish reading homework from a few months ago. Suffice it to say, I have to trust him when he says it’s a story about a monkey drinking milk. Now, onto the book list! The World’s Worst Children by David Walliams We’ve read…
Happy List: #58
Hello! Fancy meeting you here again! Did you catch my post about the cheese tea? Are you going to try it? I made that tea in my kitchen and on Monday I shared the behind-the-scenes of that swanky place. Kidding – it’s not swanky, but I’m thankful we have it! This week’s Happy List is random – per usual! Consider it a look inside my brain. WEIRD RESERVOIR This is a picture of the Pontsticill Reservoir in Wales by a fantastic photographer, Matt Thomas. It’s actually not weird. You’re looking at a bell-mouth spillway, which releases water from the dam. I love it when an interesting picture prompts me to actually do…
Would I Make It Again? Cheese Tea
Yes, you read that right. CHEESE. TEA. Apparently, cheese tea is a thing now. Regular tea wasn’t good enough, so we had to fancy it up with cheese? They should have come up with a better name for it though. I mean…gross. The cheese tea trend originated in Taiwan about 5 years ago according to this article. Instead of tasting like cheese the tea is supposed to taste like cheesecake. That sounds better. But, wait. The original recipe is made with POWDERED CHEESE. *gag* That does not sound better, but my only experience with powdered cheese is from a box of mac n’ cheese. I’ll try and reserve judgment on…
Living in Ireland: Inside My Kitchen
I find it fascinating to see how people truly live in their homes. If you leave your curtains open at night when I’m driving by – I’m going to look! I know you guys do that too! Don’t worry. I won’t make you admit it. If you’re moving to Ireland or if you do that thing you’re not admitting to this post is for you. If you come here for pretty pictures…uh…you might want to skip this one. I’m flinging open the cupboard doors so you can see inside my kitchen in Ireland. Who knows what might fall out!? Handy Husband and I have lived in a lot of homes…
Happy List: #57
There are people on social media complaining about “47 days of January” and I’m thinking to myself “how did January fly by so fast?” I think I’ll stick with my perception of reality because even if I don’t like it, it will be over quick! This week I shared the mention this blog received in a Buzzfeed article. Thanks for all of your support of this blog and my random ramblings – I appreciate you all so much. On Wednesday I wrote about our experience visiting The Louvre in Paris. It was busy – so busy. However, it was amazing to be in the presence of such masterpieces. Here is…
Travel: The Louvre With Kids
My kids (ages 7 and 10) had two things and really only two things they wanted to do while in Paris. Climb the Eiffel Tower. (I wrote about that experience here.) See the Mona Lisa at The Louvre. I understand the Eiffel Tower, but I wanted to know how they knew about the Mona Lisa and where she lived. I could have made an educated guess where she’s hanging these days, but that’s not knowledge I store in my head. “Mooom! We learned that in school!” Thank goodness. There are days when I wonder if anything I say is sticking in their heads. WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL? The Louvre has seen…
Wardrobe Malfunctions Happen
Something fun happened, so I thought I’d overshare with all of you. A couple of weeks ago, Buzzfeed included one of my sewing hacks in their article on “avoiding a wardrobe malfunction.” Cool, right? Buzzfeed is one of the 100 most visited websites in the U.S. (when I checked), so this is especially great for my itty-bitty site. Since their article was about avoiding wardrobe malfunctions, let’s talk about the times I have NOT avoided a wardrobe malfunction. I’ve nursed a very enthusiastic baby in public. If you’re a mom, you’ll know some babies consider nursing an Olympic sport with arms, legs and nursing covers flying everywhere. More than once…

“Friday is the BEST day of the week!” said my son. “We have P.E. at school and the weekend is almost here.” I like Fridays too! For 50% of those reasons. This week – because I like to stick with the tough subjects – I shared my thoughts on the great vodka sauce debate. I also told you all I learned about visiting the Eiffel Tower. If you like to know what to expect when going someplace new, this post will probably in certain circumstances definitely help you out. I also post pretty regularly on Instagram. If you haven’t seen this week’s photos, click here. On this week’s Happy List,…
