My Latest Thrift Store Finds: Part 2

my latest thrift store finds vegetable basket

I’ve already written one “My Latest Thrift Store Finds” post, so now I’m writing the much anticipated sequel. Maybe this will turn into a series.

Who knows?

I certainly don’t. Ha!

But in case anyone asks, I do have a grand plan and definitely have my act together.

Oh, and we never had this conversation.

Now let’s get back to the important business of the day, my latest thrift store finds. They are pinch myself good.

My Latest Thrift Store Finds #1: Scalloped Brass Bowl

Scalloped designs seems to be having a moment. I’ve seen scalloped designs all over the internet lately, so this scalloped brass bowl that I found sitting lost and lonely on a shelf seemed appropriately fresh.

It was a whopping $3.

My exact bowl is selling for $25 on Etsy (I found one available) and similar bowls go for up to $50.

This scalloped bowl is now holding my collection of memory rocks.

As I was transferring the rocks to the scalloped bowl, I realized there was a problem with some of the memories associated with my memory rocks. If I wrote a location AND a date on the rock, I could recall what we were doing that particular day. If I just wrote a date, I looked at that rock liked I’d never seen it before in my life.

Note to self: Your brain is not good with dates.

My Latest Thrift Store Finds #2: Basket with Wood Base

My daughter enjoys gardening right now and she’s our principal vegetable gatherer.

She asked me if I had a basket for her to use when she collected vegetables.

I didn’t. I told her to use a colander instead.

It seemed practical, but I’ll admit, not very fanciful.

What can I say? I’m a practical gal.

Then I was walking through the thrift store and spotted this basket with a wood base. It was $5 and seemed like it would be a fun one for her to use.

She’s not one to speak a lot of words in the course of a day, but her eyes lit up when I showed it to her.

As a side note, she does her gardening barefoot and wearing dresses, so I’m not sure she inherited my practical streak.

That’s okay by me. The world needs more thinkers and dreamers and more vegetables need to be gathered in beautiful baskets.

My Latest Thrift Store Finds #3: Small Painting

I was drawn to how this ornate, gold frame with its velvet mat juxtaposed with the natural setting of the pond in this painting. However, it was the blues in this tiny work of art that really caught my eye. They are so pretty!

This small painting was priced at $2.

What can I say? I’m practical AND a big spender.

This perch on top of my pantry cabinet is not where I envisioned this painting going, but I liked how the fancy painting brought some glitz and glamour to an otherwise more rustic space.

It’s a little bit country a little bit rock-n-roll classical sonatas in here now.

My Latest Thrift Store Finds #4: Brass Lamp

This brass floor lamp was my big thrift store splurge at $15, but it was worth every penny.

Even the lightbulb worked!

I really wish we had a floor outlet because what you can’t see is that there is an extension cord running behind the couch to plug in our window AC unit and now my new favorite lamp.

I probably shouldn’t tell you things like that, right?

My lamp looks similar to this one that retails new for $160. I’m quite happy with my $15 version.

Well, what do you think of my latest thrift store finds?

Today’s grand total spent was $25.

Not too shabby for a light, a bowl, a basket and a painting.

Until next time, happy thrifting!
