Did you go thrifting this summer? I probably went a couple of times a month, but only found a handful of thrift store finds worth bringing home.
I’ve been idly looking for some very specific thrift store finds, which means, of course, I won’t find them.
I’ll find everything I won’t need instead.
For instance, was I looking for a wood duck? Uh, no.
But how could I turn down this $5 find? Look how pretty it is with its iridescent, shimmering feathers.
Did I need another wood tray? Sometimes the lines between need and want are blurred, so let’s just go with yes. The answer is always yes.
It was $1 and I knew when I sanded it down it would be gorgeous!
Here’s the before shot:
Most all of the wood bowls and trays in thrift stores have a heavily lacquered, orange-toned finish. Some might be food safe, but it’s hard to tell if it’s not marked.
It only took me 15 minutes to sand the old finish off the tray. So far I’ve left the tray raw and haven’t added any sealants or oil to it.
Isn’t the wood grain pretty? Such a difference from the before, right?
I’m a sucker for anything brass or copper, especially when it comes to vases and bowls. I can’t remember exactly how much this one was, but it was around $10.
I felt like I overpaid for it, but I underpaid for something else that day, so the universe balanced itself out.
Then my son said the brass vase looked like an urn with a missing lid and the universe went out of balance again. Dang kids.
Should I question why he knows so much about urns? Nah, I’ll just look at my pretty brass VASE instead.
Probably my best thrift store find this summer was this blue and pink planter. It’s quite large and a steal at only $12.
I thought I was going to have to defend this planter by licking it ferociously when the other thrifters realized I spotted something they had missed and started questioning me about it.
Thankfully, I didn’t have to do that because EWWWW! (But I would have.)
That’s it for my summer thrift finds. A handful of things that I didn’t need per se, but I love every single one of them. Quality over quantity, baby!
In regard to the things I’m on the lookout for at thrift stores that I haven’t found yet are sturdy chairs for our office, a round wood table, a cast iron pan, and art for our bedroom. I’m always on the lookout for art that speaks to me in some way, shape, or form.
Did you find any thrift store finds this summer that made your heart go pitter-patter? I’d love to see what items you scored from thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales, Facebook Marketplace, or even side-of-the-road finds! Feel free to comment here or tag me on Instagram or Facebook.
I think I’m in a bit of a rut and need to expand my thrift store shopping circle, but there’s always time this fall, right?
Happy Thrifting!
