Why, hello again! Welcome to the Happy List!
This week on the blog I shared pictures of our new living room rug. I’m quite smitten with it at the moment.
I also shared the tale of our closet door refinishing process. The good news on that project is that I learn something new and better my skills with every project I attempt.
Please consider this your invitation to join us over on Instagram or Facebook. Also, we love to see what you are making and creating. Please tag us or send us a message so we can celebrate your project wins with you!
Now, here’s the Happy List!
EMBOSSED VELVET
This DIY Embossed Velvet Table Number idea from Ruffled Blog is intriguing. I wonder if the technique would hold up if you used it on a velvet pillow cover?
(If we are being technical, I think this is actually a debossed pattern because it is sunken into the surface.)

TOOTING MY OWN HORN
I’m pretty thrilled to be included in a Reader’s Digest article this month! The article is all about homemade Valentine’s Day cards for kids.
I used to do a lot more graphic design-related projects when the kids were little.
If you want to download this Valentine’s Day card for free, you can find it here. I also include links on where to find the toy magnifying glasses.
SO MUCH TO LOVE
I stared at this home by Jenny Martin Design for a long time soaking in the architectural details.
I like the subtly of the white house paired with the taupe shutters.

ONE SHEET OF PAPER
This sculpture is made from one sheet of paper. One sheet.
I am continually flabbergasted by the amazing things artists create from the most ordinary items.

QUALITY ASSURANCE
This warmed my heart.

SCIENCE CONCEPTS GRAPHIC NOVEL
We just got our kids this science-based graphic novel called The Dialogues. It was written by Clifford V. Johnson, Professor of Physics at The University of Southern California. He has been a science advisor for Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and the National Geographic Channel’s Genius.
I don’t have a full review to report yet since we just got it this week, but we’ve all taken turns reading parts of it! I know it challenged my brain to think about concepts I don’t usually engage with on a day-to-day basis.
If you have a teen who likes graphic novels, The Dialogues is a fun way to present scientific concepts. Please note, this isn’t a book, reading level-wise, for elementary school-aged kids.
MADE ME LAUGH

COPYCAT SALSA
We love ordering takeout from Chipotle! Every time we do, which isn’t nearly often enough since the closest one is 30 minutes away, we order a side of their hottest salsa with chips. It’s so hot!
This copycat recipe by Culinary Hill has a surprising ingredient in it and now I’m curious about trying it myself. If you like any of their other items, Meggan has a whole bunch of copycat Chipotle recipes.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
“I often wonder whether or not education is fulfilling its purpose. A great majority of the so-called education people do not think logically and scientifically. Even the press, the classroom, the platform, and the pulpit in many instances do not give us objective and unbiased truths. To save man from the morass of propaganda, in my opinion, is one of the chief aims of education. Education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from fiction.”
― The Words of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Thank you for reading today’s Happy List!
Be good to yourself and others this weekend.
I’ll see you back here on Monday.
