Happy List: #259

peace lily and thimbles on the happy list

Hi! Welcome to the Happy List! I’m so glad you’re here.

Let’s recap this week on the blog!  I shared the magical feeling the new string lights on our deck are giving us. I also asked for your advice on how to become a night owl. Ha! I also shared some reusable shopping bags that gave me a chuckle. Does your state have a plastic bag ban?

Thank you in advance for reading today’s blog post, sharing things you like, sending good vibes our way, and even engaging with us on Instagram or Facebook. This is my happy place and your support helps keep this blog running. I appreciate you.

Here’s the Happy List!

PAINT POUR FLAG

This is a fun, patriotic project by Beth at Creatively Beth! If you’ve been itching to try a paint pouring project, here’s your inspiration!

BANANA PEELS ARE EDIBLE

Did you know banana peels are edible? I haven’t tried them, but I do read Popular Science. According to a recent article in that magazine, you can turn banana peels into faux pulled pork.

So, who is going to be the first to make this recipe and report back on how it tastes? Hmm? Any takers?

SCULPTURAL BALL GARDEN

I love this garden by Greencube that was landscaped with granite balls. My kids would probably use them for parkour, but it would totally be worth it for that zen vibe they give. The balls, not the kids. Ha!

Go check out more photos of this space here.

CLEVER OUTLETS

I really, REALLY like the idea of incorporating outlets into built-in furniture as this homeowner did.

Go read this Domino article, so you can see the zoomed-out view of these nightstands. You’ll love this A-frame bedroom!

WORLD’S LARGEST PLANT

Did you hear about the world’s largest plant being discovered in Australia? A patch of seagrass 112 miles long in Shark Bay has been identified by scientists through genetic testing as one single plant.

That’s one very, very happy plant.

FLOPPY VISOR

I’m not a hat person, but I can rock a visor with the best of them. I just got this wide brim visor to wear by the pool and it’s so great at blocking out the sun! It comes in a bunch of colors.

Plus, it can roll up so you can pack it in your luggage easily if you are traveling.

UNDERWATER EGG

Have you ever wondered what happens when you crack an egg underwater?

I hadn’t, but it’s pretty cool! (Man, I hope my kids don’t try this in the pool.)

POETRY MOMENT

This poem never fails to give me all the feels, especially as I have redefined my idea of success as I have aged and matured. It also reminds me that I don’t have to save the whole world. Doing my part in the small areas where I have influence – that’s enough.

What Is Success by Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and
the affection of children;
To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure
the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To give of one’s self;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and
sung with exultation;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you
have lived –
This is to have succeeded.

Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
