Hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I’m glad you are here.
This week on the blog I shared some of my recent thrifting finds. I do love a good thrift store find. It feels a bit like treasure hunting.
I also shared old photos of our house given to us by the family who used to live here. I’m so thankful for them!
I’m also thankful for you! Thank you for continuing to show up here week after week supporting this little spot on the internet. All of your engagement here and on Instagram or Facebook is important to us. Your support truly helps our family, helps restore this old house we live in, and keeps this blog running.
Here’s the Happy List!
APPLE VOTIVES
This idea is pretty if you want to illuminate your front porch for Halloween or a fall party! I suppose you could use the idea inside too.
Details over at Design Mom. You’ll want the tip on selecting which apples to use for the votives!

GLASS PLATE UPCYCLE
I would love to see this DIY that upcycles a window and glass plates into art in person. In the pictures, it looks so pretty.
I would never have thought of this idea. Don’t you love how creative people are?
See how it was done over at House of Hawthornes.

SPIDERWEB HUMMUS DIP
This is fun for Halloween! I also think this hummus dip idea from Peas and Crayons could be adapted for Christmas. Doesn’t this look like a wreath?
We eat a fair amount of hummus with veggies in this house. I find you’re either a hummus household or an ‘only at parties’ hummus eater.

Oh! One more adaptation idea…maybe with refried beans instead of hummus and the wreath part is taco dip fillings.
DOG LOAFERS
I would wear these shoes and I’m not even a dog person! They made me smile and that velvet is gorgeous! If Corgis aren’t your dog breed, they come in different varieties.

EASY SHIRT DIY
How cute is this DIY fall shirt from The Crowned Goat made with an iron-on applique?
This seems like something I would do. In fact, I’m surprised I haven’t done it yet. It sure seems a lot easier and faster than the embroidery work I’ve been doing. Ha!

LAUNDRY ROOM IDEA
How clever is this removable backsplash to hide the washing machine hook-ups from Erin Zubot Design?
This entire laundry nook area is so pretty and I love how it was done on a budget. Check it out here.

THROW PILLOW CLEANING GUIDE
Speaking of laundry, how often do you clean your throw pillows and pillow inserts? The answer for me is not often enough!
This guide from Domino on cleaning your throw pillows, inserts, and covers is helpful.
EJACULATE RESPONSIBLY
Like many of you, I read Gabrielle Blair’s viral Twitter thread about abortion, and it widened my perspective on the topic. I’m thankful for opportunities like that!
Blair, a Mormon mother of six, has expanded on that Twitter thread in a book called Ejaculate Responsibly. Here’s an excerpt from the introduction:
“An unwanted pregnancy only happens in a man ejaculates irresponsibly–if he deposits his sperm in a vagina when he and his partner are not trying to conceive. It’s not asking a lot for men to avoid this. We’ve put the burden of pregnancy prevention on the person who is fertile for 24 hours a month, instead of the person who is fertile 24 hours a day, every day of their life.”
Blair goes on to point out that we really wouldn’t even need abortion laws for unwanted pregnancies – it wouldn’t be an issue – if men ejaculated responsibly.

TREE SCULPTURES
When I saw the tree sculptures by artist Christophe Guinet, my mind was like what am I seeing?
I don’t want to ruin how they are made, but you can read it for yourself at This is Colossal.
Prepare to be amazed!

POETRY MOMENT
Halloween Party by Kenn Nesbitt
We’re having a Halloween party at school.
I’m dressed up like Dracula. Man, I look cool!
I dyed my hair black, and I cut off my bangs.
I’m wearing a cape and some fake plastic fangs.
I put on some makeup to paint my face white,
like creatures that only come out in the night.
My fingernails, too, are all pointed and red.
I look like I’m recently back from the dead.
My mom drops me off, and I run into school
and suddenly feel like the world’s biggest fool.
The other kids stare like I’m some kind of freak—
the Halloween party is not till next week.
Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.
Be good to yourself and others this weekend.
I’ll see you back here on Monday.
