Happy List: #340

devils punchbowl park oregon coast april 2024 on the happy list

Hello! Welcome to the Happy List. I’m glad you’re here.

This week on the blog I shared the colorful outdoor umbrellas that had me dreaming about summer and dining outside.

I also discussed wood bowls and shared the one thing I don’t use them for. I’m trying to get over that. If you haven’t already weighed in on the wood bowl discussion, let me know your thoughts.

As always, thank you for being here. It’s so rewarding to connect with each and every one of you. I’ve made the best online friends through this website. If you want to connect with us, and I hope you do, you can always comment on this blog post or send an email here. You can also reach out on Instagram or Facebook.

Enjoy this week’s Happy List!

WHEN ONE DOOR OPENS

I found a set of doors I’d gladly walk through every day of my life. Have you seen prettier doors?

You need to go check out the rest of the photos of this home by Coats Homes over at Town and Country Living because there’s an interior version of these doors that are just as drool-worthy.

DONATE ECLIPSE GLASSES

If you watched the eclipse in North America this week and have eclipse glasses you want to get rid of, you can donate them to Eclipse24. They send eclipse glasses to school kids in under-resourced countries that will be experiencing the next eclipse.

Learn more here.

DO IT FOR THE CHICKENS

This sign posted by Redditor u/epbrassil made me laugh.

Sometimes humor is the best way to remind people to be considerate.

P.S. The Shops at Kukui’ula are in Hawaii.

ISLAND IDEA

Two kitchen island ideas in one! Rooms For Rent Blog used hardwood flooring to make a kitchen island and instead of removing the old island counter, they used it as the support for the new one.

That would make the island an inch or two higher, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! Their island turned out great! Go check it out here.

AUTISM INCLUSION

I thought this was neat. Due to advocacy from the autism community, South Australia’s government appears to be the first to set up an Office of Autism to work toward improved outcomes for people with autism.

There appears to be a particular emphasis on jobs and educating how neurodivergent individuals can be an asset in the workplace.

JULIA CHILD’S KITCHEN

Have you ever seen photos of Julia Child’s actual kitchen? I found the photos Bon Appetit recently shared to be so interesting.

If you look closely at the photos, you’ll see that not only does she use peg board to organize her pans but they have lines drawn around them so she would know which pan goes where. Smart!

See all the photos here.

ALDI QUARTER

Any Aldi fans in the house? Aldi makes you insert a quarter (you get it back) to use a shopping cart.

If you know a diehard Aldi shopper, they will love this Aldi quarter keychain I saw on Etsy. I thought it was a clever idea because the scramble for a quarter is real!

CITRUS FESTIVAL

Note to self: I need to visit Menton, France, when it is having its Citrus Festival or Fête du Citron.

How cool would it be to see parade floats made out of citrus fruits? The creativity is incredible. How can you not smile looking at this photo?

STRAWBERRY LEMON TRIFLE

Speaking of citrus, do you need a dessert that tastes like spring? Yes. The answer is always yes.

Home With Holly J’s Strawberry Lemon Trifle recipe looks delicious. It’s also pretty. It would be great to serve at a bridal shower, birthday party, or any dinner you invite me to.

Get the recipe here.

POETRY MOMENT

Alone by Maya Angelou

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don’t believe I’m wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can’t use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They’ve got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I’ll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
‘Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
