Faux Garage Door Windows – Easy Curb Appeal Upgrade

I’m about to blow your mind with how easy it is to upgrade the look of a garage door with faux garage door windows.

I know you have your skeptical eyes on right now. Good. That will make this even more impactful.

What are these so-called faux windows made of and how “easy” is this DIY really?

The faux garage door windows are made from magnets.

If you can place a magnet on a metal surface, that’s how easy this DIY is.

A toddler could do this DIY, but they’d probably put the faux garage door windows on the bottom of the door and all on the same panel like how they decorate a Christmas tree. That’s a look. Maybe not the look you’re going for, but the point is they can do it and so can you.

Here’s how our garage door looked before. It’s like every other boring garage door on the planet.

Drumroll please…

Here’s how it looks now.

It looks real, doesn’t it? Total trick of the eye.

The magnets seem to be a standard size no matter who is selling them, but they are thin enough that you could cut them easily with scissors or a utility knife if your garage doors are a different size than what these are made for. Mine are, so I just cheated the placement of the magnets a little.

The garage door window magnets are also hard to reposition with just one hand, so I was impressed with their hold.

Can you tell they are fake from close up? Definitely.

Remember, we are doing this for curb appeal, not for six inches from your garage door appeal. If anyone is standing that close to my garage door, they probably don’t belong there.

They are also going to notice how dirty that door gets. How?!? It’s so annoying. But I digress.

Anyway, the garage door window magnets look real to me from the road and that’s what I was going for – added curb appeal for cheap.

This cost less than 20 bucks, so I figure this is a low risk DIY fix. If I change my mind later and want to take them down – no harm, no foul.

Will the magnets hold up to extreme weather and temperature changes?

So far so good with rain and wind, but summer heat hasn’t arrived yet.

I can report back later. You know I love a good experiment.

They do stay in place when I open and close my garage door though.

If I hadn’t told you these windows were fake, would you have known? Tell the truth! You can always comment on this blog post, email me here, or reach out via Instagram or Facebook.

Happy DIYing!

P.S. I’m linking the 32-count magnets here because most people will have 2-car garages. I only bought enough for a 1-car garage using this set.
