In Praise Of: Wall Pockets and Wall Vases
I recently rearranged the gallery wall in our living room and added a wall pocket.
Have you heard of wall pockets? They are also called wall vases, but the term wall pocket feels much more charming rolling off the tongue in my American accent.
Wall pockets are vases with a flat back that can hang on the wall.
They were particularly popular during the Victorian Era. This era marked the reign of Queen Victoria over England and Ireland and ran from 1837 – 1901. Flowers were part of the romance of the Victorian Era, and nothing puts romance over practicality like flowers in a vase on a wall.
Antique and vintage wall pockets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with a cone shape being quite common.
I was recently gifted the cutest vintage wall pocket. I like it because it has a flat base, so it can sit on a tabletop or hang on the wall. How’s that for practical and romantic?
Now, if you’re like me and have had pictures fall off the wall in the middle of the night (it’s always the middle of the night), you might say, “Thanks, but no thanks to the idea of filling a vase with water and hanging it on the wall.” We are kindred spirits. I hear the objection. I have voiced the same one.
That’s why I went the dried flower route. Problem solved. Faux stems would work even better.
Now that I’ve addressed all your objections, it would appear that I’m not the only one into wall pockets at the moment. And I thought I was unique. Hahahaha!
I truly thought I’d only find wall pockets on Etsy or eBay, but it looks like many retailers are in on the game right now. Check out what I found.
Green and Yellow Wall Vases | Wayfair
For all of you color lovers, here is a happy set of wall pockets from Wayfair.

Hale Ceramic Wall Vase | Magnolia
If it’s good enough for Joanna Gaines, it’s good enough for me. This one has a great shape, and also comes in cream. I was shocked that it was only $16.

Palermo Hanging Cachepots | Pottery Barn
Of course, Pottery Barn had to rebrand a wall vase as a hanging cachepot. It comes in a creamy color and terracotta, too. The fluted edge is lovely.

Bergs Daisy Hanging Terracotta Wall Pot | Terrain
Terrain has their wall vases styled as actual outdoor planters, but the description says to take them down for the winter and store upside down.
A fun place to hang these would be next to your front door. I’d probably leave them up year-round, rebel that I am, and switch the plants out at Christmas time for fir branches.

Napkin-Shaped Wall Vase | Etsy
Love the sculptural quality of this wall vase. When grouped with other art on a gallery wall, you wouldn’t necessarily even need flowers in it.
I’d use this in our living room right now. It would give a modern edge to balance out all of the vintage elements.

That’s a quick round-up of the wall pockets and wall vases I found on the internet. There were a bunch, especially vintage ones on Etsy and eBay, as I predicted. I didn’t link those, though, because they’d probably sell before this post goes live.
Wouldn’t someone from the 1800s get a kick out of seeing a wall pocket in someone’s home in 2025? It’s like me when I see the denim jeans I wore in high school back in style with teenagers now. Been there, done that! Glad you think it’s new. Hahahaha!
