Fall Front Porch At Night

Our fall front porch at night is one of the simple delights in life that I’m relishing right now.

Don’t get me wrong.

I enjoy it during the daytime as well.

But the glow of the porch at night is what’s really doing it for me.

Full disclosure, it’s harder to see the dirt and cobwebs at night, so that’s another point in its favor.

Did you notice the colored lanterns on the steps?

I sure hope so because I don’t own a blog to be demure.

Sharing evening photos of our front porch is a shameless opportunity for me to gush about my continued enjoyment of solar lids with attached fairy lights for mason jars. This is my version of a work perk.

It has been MONTHS now of me enjoying having these DIY solar lanterns first on our deck, now on our front porch, and the novelty has not waned. Is it even a DIY if I simply screwed a lid onto a mason jar? I don’t know, but once I set them out, my part was done. They just greet me with their jar of glowing goodness as soon as the sun sets. I smile every time I see them.

Then I found colored glass jars at the thrift store in autumn colors.

Was I looking for them? No.

Are they trendy? I think not.

Do I care? Also no.

They fit the theme.

I don’t always understand thrift store math, but somehow the jars that should have been $3 total were discounted to $2.88. This store raises money for a very good cause. I’m happy to pay the extra 12 cents. Let me do my good deed for the day!

My point in telling you about these DIY solar lanterns is not to sell the solar mason jar lids. But if you want to buy some, I am not going to stop you. It does help keep the lights on around here.

My point is that I hope you have simple pleasures in your life that bring you as much delight as these solar mason jar lanterns bring me. Something that you enjoy so much that it bubbles out of you. You couldn’t contain the joy even if you tried.

Maybe it’s that first cup of coffee in the morning.
The sound of your partner’s laughter.
Cranking the volume up when a good song comes on.
Driving with the sunroof open.
Biting into a still-warm chocolate chip cookie.
Watching a magnificent sunset.
A long hug from a loved one.
Reading a poem that gives words to an elusive feeling.

Being present to notice and savor these small things that fill you up is part of what makes life sweeter. It definitely helps balance out the hard parts of life.

What’s a simple pleasure that you relish? I’d love to know. Comments really do make my day. You can comment on this blog post, email me here, or reach out via direct message on Instagram or Facebook.

Happy Fall, Y’all

P.S. I do know that you can make your own faux colored glass with food coloring and ModPodge.

P.P.S. Keep in mind that the solar lids with fairy lights work on regular mouth mason jars. The rings on the lids will rust if you leave them out in the rain for months and months, like I have done. I think these lids would make a GREAT gift for a friend or for one of those “favorite things” exchanges at Christmas time.

Here’s how the solar lids with fairy lights look with clear glass mason jars.

These lights would be ideal holiday hostess gifts. Funny you say the sound of your partner’s laugh…just last night we were watching a comedy and I had to move a pillow so I could see my husband smile and laugh …he’s not a hearty laugh out loud guy so much, more big smile and bouncy belly guy. 🥰 I enjoy a movie more when we share our reactions. Also the lure of coffee is the siren that pulls me out of bed every morning. First, second and third cup.

Pamela, YES!! A thousand yeses. Most of the time, my husband’s reaction to something is far better than the movie itself. I love the bouncy belly guy description. When your whole body gets into it, that’s amazing.
