Happy List: #178

Hello again! Welcome back to the Happy List!

How has your week been?

Ours has had a bit of a Groundhog Day feeling. That endless loop of hasn’t this happened before? Ha!

This week on the blog I shared a big milestone as it relates to our curb appeal. I’m also proud of myself for keeping the weeds out front under control. Although, the extra thick layer of mulch I put down may have something to do with that.

I also shared my strong conviction that there must be treasure hidden somewhere in our house. Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe I should leave something for the next person to find.

As always, I hope you’ll join me on Facebook or Instagram. That’s where I share all the random stuff that doesn’t make it on the blog. Sometimes I play the piano there too!

Here’s the Happy List!

I’m drooling

Goodness, this home by Jessica Helgerson is pretty. You have to go check out the gallery wall in this home’s bedroom. It is perfection.

Garbage Race

Forget Nascar. This is a race I’d totally watch…as long as it wasn’t smelly.

Also, I have a lot of questions about garbage collection in Croatia now.

Basket Lovers Rejoice

If your spouse says you have “too many” baskets (is there really such a thing?), here’s your vindication.

Behold, a pavilion made from 262 wicker baskets in France. Go see more pictures of this absolutely amazing space here.

Honestly, if you have 262 wicker baskets in your house that might be too many.

Made Me Laugh

“When we were kids, our parents didn’t give a damn about us. They didn’t even know our names! But when I think of the bedtime routine of my kids, it’s like this Royal Coronation Jubilee Centennial of rinsing and plaque and dental appliances and the stuffed-animal semi-circle of emotional support, and I have to read eight different moron books. You know what my bedtime story was when I was a kid? Darkness. That was my bedtime story.” – Jerry Seinfeld speaking to Jimmy Fallon

Darkness! That cracked me up. The level of darkness is STILL an issue at our house and my kids are 10 and 13.

If I Had a Million Dollars

Handy Husband and I saw the Barenaked Ladies perform in Minnesota many years ago. The concert was held in one of those back of the bar kind of settings. There couldn’t have been more than 100 people in attendance. It was one of THE BEST concerts we’ve ever attended (and we’ve seen Prince and George Strait perform).

These guys are so funny in person and you see some of their humor in the below performance.

Plus, how can I not like a performance that features an accordion and mentions emus? The song starts around the one minute mark.

Italian Dressing

I didn’t think to add red pepper flakes to homemade Italian dressing, but now I’m going to try it!

Here’s the recipe from Jessica Gavin.

Happy Birthday

I was shocked and delighted to learn that Sean Connery turned 90 years old this week. Ninety! He was born August 25, 1930, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Happy birthday, 007.

If you needed an excuse to eat cake this week, I’d say Sean Connery turning 90 is a pretty darn good reason to indulge.

Mountain Art

This is a clever, clever use of a scroll saw by Sarah at Ugly Duckling House to make art! This would also be a good excuse to play with colored wood stain.

Go check out her tutorial!

Food for Thought

“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.

“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Thanks for reading the Happy List!

I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
