Patriotic Table

Last week at Target…

That’s how all of my good stories start.

So, last week at Target, I picked up some vinyl placemats.

I have no intention of using them as placemats, but that’s a story for another day.

Before I embark on my little placemat project, I thought I’d use them as a table runner to help get us in the mood for the 4th of July.

I also bought myself roses for the first time in my life. They are from Trader Joe’s. I pretty much use whatever excuse I can to go to Trader Joe’s because a $5 bouquet of flowers really floats my boat.

Red roses signify love, which really dovetails nicely because I do LOVE America!

Funny story. I once told my husband, although I don’t think we were married at the time, that I like mixed flower bouquets. I haven’t go another rose since. We’ve been married 16 years.

So, I was due for some roses!

In his defense, he has given me many beautiful mixed flower bouquets over the years.
The 4th of July is one of my most favorite holidays.

Some of my most favorite childhood memories are of attending the local 4th of July parade near our home.

There’s something so wonderful about watching a 4th of July parade. For that one hour, there are no divisions and disagreements. Everyone comes together under a sense of pride…small town pride and more importantly, American pride.

Plus, people throw candy. What’s not to love about that when you’re a kid?
patriotictable5Now, I’m going to give you a little sneak peek of the other side of my dining room. I showed you the built-ins the other day.

Yes, there’s a fireplace in my dining room.

Yes, it makes my heart go pitter-patter.

No, I have no idea how to style it.

Little touches of Americana around my house make me happy! How about you? Do you decorate for the 4th of July?

Here are some more holiday ideas! Woohoo!
