Happy List: #234

Hello, hello! Welcome to the Happy List!

I hope you are doing well.

This week on the blog I shared my 2021 Holiday Gift Guide for Tweens and Teens. If you need help with someone else, I’ve got nothing for you. Hahahahaha!

I also shared a very specific tip that I hope you never have to use: how to get stuck on protective film off of plexiglass.

If you don’t follow along with us on Instagram or Facebook stories, please join us there! That’s where all the stuff in between the blog posts happens.

Also, here’s your weekly reminder if you create something that makes you happy however big or small, please tag me! I really do love to see what you are making.

Now, here’s the Happy List!

PRETTY HALLWAY

I love this pretty hallway moment at Wildflower Home. Isn’t it great? I’m a sucker for hats on a wall too.

SATIRE

Do you like satire? Have you ever lived in the Pacific Northwest?

If so, as someone who grew up in Oregon, I think you will laugh uproariously (okay, maybe chuckle) at this essay “A Typical Friday in Oregon As Imagined By My East Coast Friends” by Gracie Beaver-Kairis

Here’s an excerpt:

“On my lunch break, my coworkers and I swap stories about the biggest blisters we ever got while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. My coworker Sunshine is kind enough to share her bag of organic bark mulch with me, as I accidentally left my alfalfa sprout and tempeh wrap at home. I feed my pocket granola to some feral beavers in the parking lot.”

The pocket granola bit cracks me up.

WINDOW FRAMES

The rustic window frames in this Hudson Valley home are so cool.

The styling by West Elm is also pretty great. Wouldn’t be fun to have West Elm do a photoshoot in your home? I’d love it!

WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT IDEA

I’ve found the item that is sure to win any White Elephant Gift Exchange you attend this year. Full face sunglasses. Did you know that was a thing?

I have so many questions starting with why?!?!

Most White Elephant Gift Exchanges have a dollar limit. These were around $16 last I checked. So, not too much money for a good laugh and hilarious pictures!

CHRISTMAS VILLAGE

Well, this is a fun, fresh take on a Christmas village by Jen at City Farmhouse!

See how she did it here.

ADVENT CALENDAR

Did you know they make fidget toy advent calendars for kids?

I got this one for my 11-year-old from Amazon. I don’t know if the toys are good, but I think he’ll like the novelty of it because he loves having something in his hands to fiddle with.

Heads up, I think the prices on these are going up the closer we get to December 1. I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and paid a lot less.

A friend of mine ordered this fidget toy calendar with Minecraft Steve. You can’t go wrong with Minecraft!

4-7-8 SLEEP TECHNIQUE

Have you heard of the 4-7-8 Sleep Technique? It’s a breathing technique to help you relax and sleep. Maybe don’t try it at work. Ha!

The next time I have a hard time going back to sleep when I wake up at 2 a.m. I’m going to give it a shot.

BIRDS WITH ARMS

The internet can be a weird and wonderful place. This short 30-second video of birds with arms made me chuckle, especially the ostrich.

If the video doesn’t load, watch it directly on YouTube.

POETRY MOMENT

“The Beautiful Art of No” by Arielle Estoria

May we find strength
In our No,
In our ability
To let the word flow
Off of our lips.
As our feet press confidently
Into the ground beneath us
Unraveling the lies
That selfishness resides
When we are simply trying
To say Yes to ourselves
Yes to our sanity
Yes to our wellbeing
Yes to make room for the
Things that we truly love
Our No is powerful
Our No is beautiful
And just like our Yes,
Our No, is ours to have

Wow. Wow. Wow. This poem resonated with me in all the best ways.

Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this week.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
