    Happy List: #388

    May 2, 2025 /

Hello! Welcome to the first Happy List of May! I hope you are as excited to be here as I am to host you. This week on the blog, I shared the next installment of the Stone Gym series. That project, which is happening in our Carriage House, is a labor of love. Heavy emphasis on the labor part. Ha! I also dished on the “hidden treasure” we found buried in the ground next to the Carriage House. If you have any ideas on what I should do with the 35 tin tiles I found, let me know. The tricky part for me is making something that matches my style…

Did We Finally Find Buried Treasure?

    April 30, 2025 /

If you’ve been reading this blog for five minutes, you’ll know that I am unabashedly on the hunt for buried treasure on our 250-year-old property. Surely, surely, there must be something hidden around here somewhere. Preferably, this something would be valuable enough to pay off our mortgage, but I’m not picky. We recently dug a trench alongside our Carriage House and that trench was full and I do mean FULL of buried treasure. I don’t mean the valuable sort of treasure. More like this was someone’s garbage pile. An actual garbage pile that had been buried over time, and now I’m donning my proverbial Indiana Jones hat and saying under…

Stone Carriage House Gym: Part 2, Demo

    April 28, 2025 /

If you missed it, we are expanding our home gym. This space, that I affectionately refer to as the ‘little torture chamber,’ is located in our stone Carriage House. The part of the home gym we completed in 2024 looks like this now. The other half of the building, where we want to expand the home gym, looked like this (see photo below) last month. It was a tad bit creepy. When I say creepy, I mean that’s where the cave crickets lived. I think they are gone now. *fingers crossed* You can catch up on why we are doing this expansion and feast your eyes on all the creepy…

    Our WILD Spring Break Plans

    April 21, 2025 /

Spring break for our family is finally here! Our Spring Break in New Jersey always starts on Good Friday. It feels very late this year. Some schools on the West Coast had their Spring Break in March. Spring Break is a little funny for adults because we didn’t have one before kids, and we certainly won’t have one after our kids are done with school. All that to say, we are not taking a tropical vacation over Spring Break. *whomp, whomp* We had plans to repair our house trim, but that plan met a swift end due to a finicky lift and the slope of our yard. We’re back to…

    April 18, 2025 /

Hello and happy Good Friday for those of you celebrating. I’m happy to see each and every one of you here. We start our Spring Break today. I know it seems late compared to many parts of the U.S., but along our part of the East Coast, Spring Break is always over Easter. This week on the blog felt like a busy one – in a good way! I shared the daffodil wall I’m creating along the front portion of our property. I know I could buy bulbs and finish this project in one go, but there’s something romantic about slowly adding to the wall over time. I also finally…

Entryway Refresh and a New Front Door Window

    April 16, 2025 /

Last month we did an entryway refresh on our home and now I’m wondering why we waited so long? That’s how it always goes. I prefer to sit with things before I write about them. It gives me some perspective on the change. It helps minimize the number of instances where I have to apologize because whatever thing we changed didn’t hold up or perform as expected. Also, it gives us time to “laugh about this later” when things go wrong and they always do with our projects. I really want to meet these people where things seem to run like clockwork for them. What’s that like? How do they…

    Daffodils Along Our Stone Wall

    April 14, 2025 /

The last few years I’ve been planting a gift for Future Me to enjoy – daffodils along the stone wall that runs the length of our property. This stone wall “protects” our property from the road, meaning it’s very visible to anyone who drives by, so I’d like to think these daffodils are a gift for my neighbors too. Everyone likes daffodils, right? Surely they must be one of the least controversial things on this planet. I put the word protects in quotes in the above paragraph because I’m not sure how much a 2-foot tall stone fence or wall really protects us from anything. The mailman and the deer…

    April 11, 2025 /

Hello, hello! It is delightful to see you here. Welcome! I hope you’ve had a decent week with more ups than downs. On the blog, it felt particularly jam-packed. I wrote about the quick curb appeal project of adding faux windows to our garage. What I love about this project beside the low cost was that when I change my mind (and I will), I can simply remove the window magnets and go about my day. No effort required to put it back to the way it was. I also wrote about the new-to-us drink table I placed next to the bench in our kitchen. I’ve noticed that the drink…

What a Difference a Drink Table Makes

    April 9, 2025 /

The thing you never knew you needed is a drink table. It’s a mini side table that’s just big enough to hold a drink or two. It could also hold a plant. Truth be told, I think the origin story of the drink table is that someone killed a plant they had on a plant stand. After that, this bright bulb decided the only thing they were good at watering was themselves, so they turned that plant stand into a drink stand. Play to your strengths, people! I love a multifunctional piece of furniture, so no complaints here. I just added a drink table to the bench that sits in…

Faux Garage Door Windows – Easy Curb Appeal Upgrade

    April 7, 2025 /

I’m about to blow your mind with how easy it is to upgrade the look of a garage door with faux garage door windows. I know you have your skeptical eyes on right now. Good. That will make this even more impactful. What are these so-called faux windows made of and how “easy” is this DIY really? The faux garage door windows are made from magnets. If you can place a magnet on a metal surface, that’s how easy this DIY is. A toddler could do this DIY, but they’d probably put the faux garage door windows on the bottom of the door and all on the same panel like…
