My Latest Thrift Store Finds: Part 5
Welcome to another round of My Latest Thrift Store Finds! We’re on part 5 of this story. How many parts will there be? It is anyone’s guess. As long as there are thrifted treasures to be found and a few bucks in my pocket, I’m there. I was trying to think of everything in our house that has been thrifted and decided it would just be easier to list the things I’ve purchased new such as mattresses, pillows, bed frames, the couch, recliner chairs in our bedroom, and rugs. Oh, and 20 years ago I bought the piano new. If I take care of it, it should last another 80…
DIY Wood Cube Cord Holder
Today I’m going to show you my latest creation, a DIY Wood Cube Cord Holder, and how you can make one yourself. Cord management for all of our electronic devices seems like a universal problem we can all get behind. That’s a rarity in our world! I’ve been on a kick to contain, manage, and wrangle all the charging cords in our house. It’s a thankless job but someone has to do it. My laptop charging cord is particularly wily. If that cord wasn’t plugged into my laptop, it would slide right off the back of my desk. There are adhesive clips you can purchase to solve that problem but…
Happy List: #290
Hi! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. Can you believe February is almost over? This week on the blog I shared what I learned about rhododendrons. I’m a big fan of those flowers but still trying to decide if I plant more in our flowerbeds. I also shared my love story with bread. Or, if you want to be technical about it, the 4 bread recipes I bake on repeat around here. I hope you try them and enjoy them as much as we do. As always, I like connecting with you! It makes me smile. Please feel free to leave a comment or share this site with your friends.…
4 Bread Recipes I Make On Repeat
We eat a fair amount of bread in our house. Life’s too short not to enjoy carbs, right? All. the. carbs. However, I don’t regularly buy bread from the grocery store unless my kids are going through a bagel phase or we are having burgers for dinner. If we’re eating bread it is usually because I’ve baked it. Yes, I’m one of those people. It’s not that I enjoy the act of baking bread particularly, but I do enjoy eating it. Here are 4 bread recipes I make on repeat around here. They never fail me. I’m also using the word bread loosely here. If it is dough-based, it’s bread…
Considering More Rhododendrons For Our Landscaping
I’m considering adding more rhododendrons to the landscaping directly in front of our Colonial Farmhouse. I know it’s not necessarily newsworthy to tell you I’m thinking about doing a thing but I haven’t decided if it’s a good idea and even if it is I might chicken out and do something else. Yet, here we are. Honestly, if someone else wanted to take care of the landscaping decisions for me, I’d be so happy. It’s just not a topic that gets me excited. Unfortunately, there is no one else. I double and tripled checked. I’m stuck with myself on this one. We currently have three rhododendrons. One to the left…
Happy List: #289
Hi! Welcome to this week’s Happy List! I’m delighted you are here. This week on the blog I shared all the things I learned about Valentine’s Day this year. Basically, we spend a lot on a holiday we don’t particularly love. I also wrote a blog post about my current interest in watercolor greeting cards. I’ve made some of my own. I also found a bunch on Etsy that were amazing. Have you ever made your own greeting cards? It’s fun! As always, I like connecting with you! It makes me smile. In Praise of Watercolor Greeting Cards
I’m really into watercolor greeting cards right now. I watched, with the sound off, most of approximately 3 Instagram videos on how to make your own watercolor greeting cards and thought, “I can do that.” It’s a teensy bit cavalier of me. Maybe delusional. It’s a good thing I wasn’t watching how to do brain surgery videos. Don’t worry. I know my limits. And I don’t like gross things. I do like pretty things and being crafty, so I did bust out my kids’ watercolor paints and tried making my own watercolor greeting cards. Let me tell you, I can see why people get into this. It’s very soothing. Will I…

Hi! Welcome to the Happy List! I shared a personal story about our wedding anniversary this week on the blog. We celebrated this milestone by chauffeuring our children to all the places they needed to go and then ordering Chinese food for dinner. Romantic, right? Ha! I also wrote about how to make a weighted cord holder using fabric, rice, and your wits to sew it all together. As always, I like connecting with you! Truly. DIY Weighted Cord Holder Using Fabric and Rice
Hold onto your charging cords! Today we will solve the pesky problem of how to keep your charging cord or charging cable from falling off your desk. How? With a DIY Weighted Cord Holder. If you can sew a button on a shirt, you can do this project. If you have a sewing machine, you can probably do this project in the time it takes to read this blog post. (Try not to brag.) Basically, we are going to make a small, narrow bean bag to hold your charging cord or cable in place on your desk. Except, instead of beans our Weighted Cord Holder is going to hold rice.…
