Happy List: #254
Hello! Welcome to the last Happy List of April! Time flies, my friends. This week on the blog we celebrated Handy Husband’s birthday and we discussed our junk drawer situation or lack thereof. So, a typical week on the blog. Ha! If you’ve been sprucing up the outside of your house as we have been lately, we’d love to see what you’ve been working on. Maybe we can inspire each other! A friendly reminder, if you see something you enjoy here, please share it with your friends. Eyeballs on website pages or on Instagram or Facebook help keep this blog trucking along. Thank you! Now, here’s the Happy List! MIRROR, MIRROR I…
Happy Birthday to Handy Husband
Please join me in wishing a very happy birthday to Handy Husband. Today is not his actual birthday, but April is his birth month. What a great month to be born in with all the promise spring holds. I thought it would be easy to write a quick little birthday tribute, but when I sat down to type I didn’t know what to say. The feelings were just too big. Finally, I decided I’d share a story that encapsulates how grateful I am to have the absolute privilege of growing older with him. Recently, on a random Tuesday, Handy Husband woke up, went downstairs, made coffee, and then brought me…
How We Manage With No Junk Drawer In Our House
I don’t think I’ve ever written a more melodramatic blog post title than “How We Manage With No Junk Drawer In Our House.” No junk drawer. The horror. How DO we manage? All joking and sarcasm aside, we really don’t have a junk drawer and haven’t had one for years. It’s not because I don’t pine for a junk drawer. If we had a spare drawer in the house, I would junk it all up in a heartbeat. Kidding. Sort of. But that does tend to happen when you have a drawer assigned as a catchall. In fact, in a survey sponsored by ClosetMaid in 2021, they reported that 88%…
Spring Break 2022
Hi! I hope you had a lovely Easter if you celebrate. This is finally our Spring Break week! Does our Spring Break feel late to you? It feels late to me. I’ll be taking this week off the blog to do some fun stuff with the family. I’m not sure if I will be posting stories every day to Instagram and Facebook this week, but I will if the mood strikes! In the meantime, if you’d like something to read, here are some light-hearted blog posts from the archives that you might enjoy. Happy List: #253
Hello! Welcome to the Happy List. Happy Good Friday and Easter to those of you who celebrate those occasions! This week on the blog I shared how to make wood-burned dice. I hope you give that project a try someday. I also mused on the blog about why small projects feel so large prior to starting them. My brain really messes me up on that one! As a friendly but slightly awkward reminder, if you see something you enjoy here or on Instagram or Facebook, please share it, save it, like it, or even send a good thought into the universe. It really helps out! Now, here’s the Happy List! MADE ME…
Why Do The Small Projects Seem So Large?
Why do the small projects seem so large? This could be any project or task, not just the house-related ones. Most of the time the mental gymnastics I go through to avoid starting a small project are way worse than the reality of actually completing the small project. Why is my brain that? Am I the only one who does this? I’ve seriously spent more time obsessing over, whining about, or flat-out ignoring the five small projects we tackled recently around our house. Here they are in no particular order related to the time spent procrastinating before starting, the actual effort or time expended to complete, or the satisfaction gained…
How to Make Wood-Burned Dice
I have the most satisfying project for you today. How to make wood-burned dice from wood cubes. Do we need them? Need is a relative term. Do we want them? Of course. They are so cool! Are they satisfying to make? Oh, heck yeah. And that, my friends, is the best part. It’s not so much what we create, but the act of creating that’s the reward. Let’s get started on how to make wood-burned dice. How To Make Wood-Burned Dice Step #1: Cut Cubes Cut cubes out of wood using a table saw. Our cubes are 3/4″ square, but you could adapt your size if you want larger or…
Happy List: #252
Hello! Welcome to the Happy List. I hope you’ve had a terrific week. I also hope that reading this list every week is the teeny tiniest of bright spots for you! This week on the blog was unofficial Easter craft week. I shared the Easter Egg Embroidered Napkins that I made and the Wood-Burned Easter Eggs I created. If you’ve been trying new things as I have been lately, I’d love to see what you’ve created. Maybe we can inspire each other! A friendly reminder, if you see something you enjoy here, please share it with your friends. Eyeballs on website pages or on Instagram or Facebook help keep this blog trucking…
DIY Your Own Wood-Burned Easter Eggs
Here’s something you never knew you needed to make until now: Wood-Burned Easter Eggs. They are fun to make, will last forever, and you can even use them as place cards at your Easter table. I’m a wood-burning novice. Seriously, these wood-burned Easter eggs are my second wood-burning project ever. If I can try something new, so can you. All you need are wood eggs, a wood-burning kit, and your imagination. I like these 2 1/2-inch wood eggs from Amazon because they are a good natural egg size and don’t have a flat bottom. If you want your eggs to stand up on end, then you need to order eggs…
Easter Egg Embroidered Napkins
Here’s a relatively quick and customizable Easter craft for you – Easter Egg Embroidered Napkins. This is a fun way of adding some Easter flair to otherwise plain cloth napkins. Please note that I casually threw out the words ‘relatively quick’ when describing this project. Some of you have never touched embroidery thread. Some of you are probably hand-stitching pros and could do this project with your eyes closed. (If you can actually do this with your eyes closed, will you make a video for me?) On the embroidery spectrum, I’m a little closer to “never touched embroidery thread” than I am to being a professional. With my limited skills,…
